Insomnia Orison

You told us that we should remain awake,
for we don’t know the time You will arrive,
and we should keep a vigil for Your sake
and for a sleeplessness we ought to strive.
Yet sleeplessness has sometimes been a woe,
and I have wished that I could fall asleep
to see You in the dreams where I would go,
but there’s a vigil that I want to keep.
Although I want to stay for You alert,
as I don’t know the time that You will come,
a lack of sleep has made me feel like dirt.
O, Love, please bless me every night with some.
Till when the time You come and are in view,
may I be granted sleep with dreams of You.
